About the Initiative

The Initiative on Leadership and the Liberal Arts  is a collaboration between Claremont McKenna College, Loyola Marymount College and the University of Richmond. The W. M. Keck Foundation awarded a three-year grant to the Jepson School of Leadership Studies at the University of Richmond to manage this partnership to integrate topics of responsible leadership across liberal arts disciplines. The three-school collaboration has included the development of Interdisciplinary, team-taught courses, undergraduate student research, and workshops that provide guidelines for other colleges interested in incorporating courses or other resources into their curriculum. Additionally, a volume of essays by leading educators will be published by Palgrave Macmillan. Leadership and the Liberal Arts: Achieving the Promise of a Liberal Education will be co-edited by Michael Genovese of Loyola Marymount University, Ron Riggio of Claremont McKenna College and  Tom Wren of the University of Richmond. In addition to the 2006 and 2007 workshops, the May 2008 Jepson School Summer Institute for Leadership and the Liberal Arts will again be made possible through the generosity of the Keck Foundation.
